Hello Everyone, Welcome,
Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice mini break from the books! This week we will organise a zoom call for Tuesday 23rd.
Junior and Senior Infants 10:30am
1st class 11am.
I fully understand that some of you may not be in a position to attend and that is absolutely fine. The call will be similar to the last call just a little chat with our friends for about 20minutes. The links to the zoom calls will be posted on Tuesday morning on the Seesaw app.
This week George will celebrate his 6th birthday on Wednesday. We wish him a very special day.

Week 6: 15/02/2021 -17/02/2021

Hello Everyone,

I hope that you all had a great weekend. This week is a short week in terms of school. We only have school work for three days and then we get a mini break on Thursday and Friday. You have no school work to do on these days.
Tuesday is Pancake Tuesday so it marks the day that traditionally families used up all of their flour, eggs and milk and made pancakes to prepare for lent the following day.
Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and this is the day that our priest Fr. Donal marks our foreheads with holy ashes with the sign of the cross. He will be unable to do this, this year. I have added some activities associated with pancake Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent to your seesaw accounts.

Saturday the 20th of February is Ryan's 7th birthday we wish him a very special birthday.

Take care and look after each other.

Mrs. Connolly.

Week 5: 8/02/2021-12/02/2021

Hello Everyone.
I hope that you all had a great weekend. This week promises to be a little colder so make sure you keep wrapped up nice and warm. This week also marks the final week of our family fundraiser- if you haven't got involved just yet there is still time. Go outside and take the dog for a walk or take a  cycle to the shop or take a walk in the woods. Remember to send in any pictures you take of you exercising.

Also, this week we will arrange a Zoom call with all the boys and girls in our classroom. The zoom call for Junior and Senior Infants will take place on Tuesday morning at 10:30 and the 1st class zoom call will take place Tuesday morning at 11:00. Mr. Rabbitte and I will both be available to chat with you. I am looking forward to hearing how you all celebrated the weekend.

Week 4: 01/02/2021 - 05/02/2021

Hello Everyone, I hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend.
Today is the 1st day of February. That means that Spring has sprung! Today is the day we celebrate Saint Brigid. Brigid was a very caring lady who looked after the sick and the poor. She reminds me of the wonderful nurses and doctors that work in our hospitals today.

You will need to be on the look out for spring flowers, daffodils, and tulips and also baby lambs. Let me know if you see any signs of Spring.

February is also a very special month in our classroom. We have lots of birthdays to celebrate. This week Aoibheann turns 7 on Tuesday and Phoebe turns 5 on Thursday. We wish you girls both a very enjoyable day.

Below I have attached the homework for this week. Thank you all for engaging so well with it. Please do as much as you can.

Keep safe,

Mrs. Connolly.

Booklist infants- 1st Class

22nd June 2020
Hi Everyone,
I just want to say a big 'Thank You' to you all. Thank you for engaging in all of the online material since March. I absolutely loved seeing all of your work. You did great!
As this is our last week of school before summer holidays officially kick in perhaps you and your family would like to engage in a TEDDY BEAR'S PICNIC. Why not make some simple sandwiches, rice krispie buns and pour some drinks, get a blanket from the press and head outside with your Teddy Bear and have some fun. This is the only homework you will have this week!
Enjoy your summer holidays, keep up some reading and writing activities and fingers crossed we will all be back in September.

P.S. Here is a certificate for you all for engaging in the Incredible Edibles project. We will find out just how well we did with the project later on in the summer - watch this space!

All the best, Mrs. Connolly.

Dear Parents,
I have set the senior infant and 1st class students up on a PM reader website. This is a 30 day trial. Contact me via email creggsns@gmail.com if you would like your child's username and password. This is optional. It is just another reading resource, however if you are doing okay with your own reading material and the oxford owl online resource there is no need to avail of this. Thank you. Mrs. Connolly.

This is a plough. It is used to turn over the soil. The harrow is used to break up the soil ready for the seeder.

The seeder is filled with seed. The seed drill is planting new seed into the ground.  The fertiliser is used to spread fertiliser to help the wheat grow. It also has to be sprayed to prevent disease.

In Autumn the wheat, when ripe, is harvested by a combine harvester.

It is then sold by the farmer to the local mill. The wheat is dried and turned into flour. We use the flour to bake yummy buns and cakes.

Due to the circumstances we find ourselves in – this was not doable. Instead, two children from our class wrote about their experiences of their Daddy’s farm. I have included their work for you to read.

Hi Everyone,
This month, we will engage in revision activities mainly in English and Maths. I will include material for the other subject areas, however if your child is finding it hard to take part in school based activities and would prefer to be outside playing, I will be more than happy for you to concentrate  on English and Maths. Your child’s well-being is most important.

At the bottom of this week’s work I have added in some activities for eSport’s Week – online sport’s week as our usual sport’s day cannot take place!  There are different challenges for each day. Feel free to give it a go. It starts off with a scavenger hunt. The children will love. If you find it difficult to view it here click onto the word document just below and you will find it at the bottom of thator alternatively, log on to www.twinkl.ie/offer  password IRLTWINKLHELPS and look for esport’s week.

25/05/2020 - 29/5/2020

Hi Everyone,

It is hard to believe we are in the final week of May. I would like to thank you all for all of your efforts with school work – believe me I know at times it isn’t easy! I have really enjoyed the feedback and the photographs you have been sending on. Most of the course work is complete – with this in mind we will spend the last number of weeks revising work to date.
Well done to Everyone, look after yourselves. Mrs. Connolly.
Also, Mrs. Hughes (Ms. Comer) had a beautiful baby boy last Thursday. Jamie is his name. I know the children will be eager to hear this. Both Mommy and baby are safe and well.

Please see printable schedule of work here- https://drive.google.com/file/d/1h7i_y6YNEisnw-9BImGm0tPB8ljfWcSt/view?usp=sharing

·         Writing. This week we will look at revising letter C and a. I have included an example of a handwriting sheet. Encourage your child to practice letter formation correctly. Say the rhyme when writing – start at the top half way around = letter C. start at the top half way around, up, down and a tail = a. It is important to form the letter C correctly, a lot of letters start with the C shape. Forming a C correctly will ensure that other letters like a, o, d, q etc will also be formed correctly.
·         Letter and sound games from www.topmarks.co.uk (Free resource)
·         Continue to play games on the jolly phonics fun app if you purchased it.

Alternatively, you are get a sheet of paper and rule the top line red, a middle line blue and the third line red again.
-The top red line represents the tall letters, d, l, t, b, h, k, f.
-The blue line is for the small letters (most letters are small and those that are not usually start out as small, eg. b and d)
-The fall letters are y, g, q, j, p, f.

Surface tension:
In physics surface tension is a force present within the surface layer of a liquid that causes the layer to behave as an elastic sheet. It is the force that supports insects to walk on water, for example. Surface tension is caused by the attraction between the molecules of the liquid.
The following are three experiments to show surface tension.

·         Experiment 1
You will need: 1 bowl of water, some pepper flakes (ground pepper) Some soap (washing up liquid is fine)
·         What to do: Shake pepper flakes on top of water. Place your finger into the water – observe what happens (nothing) Now, dab some washing up liquid onto your finger, place finger in water again and observe what happens (pepper spreads out)

·         Experiment 2
·         You will need: glass of water, paper clip
·         What to do:  if you drop the paper clip into water it will sink – however if you can very gently place the paper clip on top of water without disturbing the surface tension it should float.

·         Experiment 3 ( this one is trickier and can take some time )
·         You will need: a plate with some milk on it, food colouring, cotton bud dipped in washing up liquid
·         What to do: pour a small amount of milk onto the plate to cover its surface. Add one drop each of 3-4 different coloured food colourings. Dip cotton bud into washing up liquid and place on the centre of the plate.
·         After a while the food colouring should spread out to form a pattern.
·
This video shows all three experiments – give them a go. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq1J-7-LVIo

·         May is the month of Mary. Mary is Jesus’ Mommy. During May we think of all of our Mommies and all of the lovely kind things they do for us. During this month, perhaps you could make a card or write a letter to your Mommy thanking them for all that they do for you – making dinner, washing and cleaning, shopping and showing love.

·         Us this link to hear a traditional song about Mary – ‘Bring Flowers of the Fairest.’

·         There are more resources available on Mary on the Grow in love website – seasonal lessons – lesson 5 – Mary. Login details – e-mail trial@growinlove.ie Password: growinlove

The children can also listen to the song When creation was begun  and Ave Maria and colour in the picture of Mary.

Art:
Now, that May has arrived we can see beautiful flowers everywhere. So it’s a good time to make a pressed-flower card for someone special.
Instructions: When it is dry outside , collect a variety of flowers outside including their stems.
Observe how they look now. Then place them inside a heavy book to flatten them.
Leave them for a day or so, then gently peel them off the pages. Glue them to a blank card to make a beautiful surprise for someone special.

Religion
·         May is the month of Mary. Mary is Jesus’ Mommy. During May we think of all of our Mommies and all of the lovely kind things they do for us. During this month, perhaps you could make a card or write a letter to your Mommy thanking them for all that they do for you – making dinner, washing and cleaning, shopping and showing love.

·         Us this link to hear a traditional song about Mary – ‘Bring Flowers of the Fairest.’

·        There are more resources available on Mary on the Grow in love website  Under the Junior and Senior Infant pages – seasonal lessons otherwise continue with– Theme 8 ‘Jesus is still with us’: Lesson 3 – What is a missionary and after Penecost.  Login details – e-mail trial@growinlove.ie Password: growinlove

P.E.
This week, why not try out some YOGA moves. A little seed (scrunch up very small) starts to grow (open up slightly) gets bigger (open out more)  shoots and grows (arms shoot up) bunches out (stand on one foot –one are up) a mighty tree (tree pose) and continue the cycle
https://www.gaa.ie/my-gaa/getting-involved/kids-activities The GAA have put together some great ideas to keep the children busy – take a look.
