Liam Hyland from Active Schools called to us today. He was very impressed  with our activities and our website. He even came with us to Donamon for our tournament. We were awarded the Active School Flag. We were delighted.

After swimming we went on a local history tour. We visited Roscommon Park, Castle and Fuerty Abbey.

Swimming classes start today in Roscommon pool for all classes from First to Sixth. We will be attending for seven weeks. This is a very important part of our PE programme and we will also be learning about water safety in our PAWS programme.


Active Schools Week: April   2017.


Sincere thanks to Raymond, our student-coach, who assisted the teachers in drawing up lesson plans and in implementing them for each class, each day of our Active Schools Week. Míle Buíochas! Here we are in action in some of our activities! We engaged in various activities each day.

Day 1: Infants/First: 
2/3/4 Classes:
Warm up activities - Stretch and mobility activities, working from ankles to head. 
Jumping activities: high jump, forward/backward jumps, jump and twist in the air. Circle runs using cones, hurdle runs, side jumps race, relay race, javelin with beanbags, zig zag relay, long jump.
 Concluding activity. (All).

Senior Classes: warm up and mobility exercises.

Dribbling exercises (soccer), passing exercises (soccer), shooting games (soccer), possession game (soccer).

Day 2:

 Rugby blitz in Creggs to promote The Women's World Cup ln Rugby 2017 which will be held in Ireland . Representatives from Connacht Women's Rugby were present. All pupils from 2 to 6 class took part.

We played hurling  today. February 2017. Prionsias assisted and demonstrated the necessary skills. We will now be able to practice these and implement the skills we learned in our future games with our teachers.

We hosted the Special Olympics Regional Motor Activities Training Programme in our school in February 2017. People came from Mayo, Galway, Roscommon and Sligo to participate. We have been involved with the Special Olympics for 8 years since we set up our Sunshine Class. Children from our school took part. The rest of the school went to cheer and support them.  Congrats to the boys who won the soccer tournament in Shiven.  They beat Granlahan, Brideswell, Curraghboy and Lisaniskey.  They scored 21 goals in total.  They are through to the Connacht final in Castlebar.

Galway Atlantaquaria

In February we visited Galway Atlantaquaria. Our tour guide Ian taught us all about the different sea creatures. We even got the chance to feed and touch some of them! We walked around and saw all the creatures.







We got to hold a Starfish. Ian told us to hold it upside down so the starfish wouldn't stick to our hands!

A representitive from the Connacht Ladies Rugby Team came to visit us with the Six Nations Cup. They talked to us about the huge level of commitment involved between training hard and watching their diet.  They also spoke about the friendships made, loyalty and encouragement each player gains from working as a team.
