Chance is the likelihood or probability of something happening.
Planet Maths Next unit - 6th
class – Co-ordinates p.189 – 193.
Co-ordinates are very helpful
and you would be familiar with it when using maps and lines of latitude and
longitude on a map of the world. Give the chapter a go!
Remember
Vertex = Where two or more
lines meet…or really “a corner”
You can also log in to www.folensonline.ie to see resources of the unit you are doing.
You need to create an account with parents’ permission.

know all your tables (multiplication and division). If you are still unsure of
them, spend time learning those you find more challenging. Your tables are in
your school diary.

is an excellent free online maths programme to test and hone your maths skills.
You have to create an account with the supervision of your parents and then it
is free.
Gaeilge
It is an excellent free Irish language learning site to
practice and hone your Irish skills daily. You should be progressing through
your own personal goals at this stage on it.
Set up the account (it just needs an email address) with
your parents’ permission and start practicing.
Again speaking the language is the most enjoyable and
rewarding parts of learning any language. It can be frustrating at first but
the best way is to practice with someone else. Try speaking to some member of
your family in Irish for just 5 minutes using what you are practicing on
Duolingo. Keep it simple – Úsáid Gaeilge simplí; mar shampla Dia duit, Dia is
Mhuire duit, Conas atá tú, Tá mé go hiontach, Tá mé togha (sound), agus tú féin?
Add this week at the dinner table “Ba mhaith liom……” – I
would like….. mar shampla “Ba mhaith liom bainne le do thoil” – I would like
milk, please!

Spend some time outside in this beautiful
weather, it is especially important to get fresh air and to keep active at this
time within the Government limits. It is great for mind and body.

Get ready because next week is Sports Week!
History
Last week you wrote a letter to your grandparents,
granduncles, grandaunts or elderly family friends who may be cocooning at this
time. If you received a letter back you can read it and pick out the
information and answers to any of the questions you asked and write another
letter to them thanking them for their time and information.
If you haven’t done the original letter you can do it this
week. Please ask parents’ permission before you write it.
In your letter you should ask compile a list of 10 or more
questions relating to their history within the Creggs area or beyond, e.g.
their school days, do they remember any school closures before, games they
played when younger, working on the farm etc.
Hopefully, they will write back answering your questions so
that you will have an actual piece of historical data in your hands for you to
have always.
The type of letter you will write is Informal (as it is to
someone you know) Click on the link below to see format of Informal letters as
to how your page should be laid out.

identify a particular place in the world.
Science
Have a look at this great NUIG competition and please enter
with parents’ permission if you can.
NUI Galway and Science Foundation Ireland launched an online
science video competition for schools and youth organisations called ‘ReelLIFE
SCIENCE @ HOME’. The programme encourages young people to think about the
science and technology in their everyday lives in a creative way, while
learning some new communication and digital skills at the same time.
While practising social distancing at home, students can
research a STEM topic such as ‘Healing the Body’, ‘Climate Action’, ‘How Things
Work’, ‘Science on the Farm’ or ‘Science and Me’, and produce a one minute
video to engage and educate the public. Videos can be in English or Irish and
from just one student, or many, if video clips are edited together.
The best video will win €1000 for the school or youth
organisation they are representing and will be screened for the public at the
Galway Science and Technology Festival in November.
Since 2013, more than 13,000 young people have taken part in
ReelLIFE SCIENCE in over 400 schools and groups around Ireland, and we have
awarded over €25,000 directly to schools and youth organisations.
Closing date for entries is this Friday May 29th and, on our
‘How to Enter’ page, you will find lots of information about taking part,
including links to previous years’ winning videos and advice on producing and
submitting a video to the competition.
